    Description

    PicoDrive
Constant current laser diode boost driver designed for those
    high Vf laser diode
    like:
    405nm
    ,
    477nm
    ,
    480nm
    ,
    488nm
    ,
    490nm
    ,
    495nm
    ,
    505nm
    ,
    510nm
    , etc
    SPECS:
    Topology: Boost (When operating,
Vin must be below Vout/diode Vf
    )
    Vin: 2 - 24V (tested up to 18V input)
    Vout: 2.5 - 28V (tested up to 32V output)
    Iout:
    70 - 1500mA+
    (depends on Vout)
    Size: 12*9mm
    Features:
    Current regulated
    Adjustable current
    Soft start (internal)
    Thermal shutdown
Thin PCB with lots of vias
, maximizing heat transfer from top side to bottom side.
Component mounted and soldered using automated assembly machine, minimizing human error.
    Continuous ground/negative
    Method of test:
    Using 3.8V battery source
    Current measured across 1Ω resistor
Voltage drop (Vf) simulated using multiple combination of standard rectifier diode
    Driver not heatsinked
    Here is the test result:
Min current (potentiometer at most CCW position):
    70mA @ 5.72Vf
    Current set at
    107mA @ 5.91Vf
    Current set at
    208mA @ 6.2Vf
    Current set at
    210mA @ 7.7Vf
    Current set at
    480mA @ 8.3Vf
Aaand, here is the current set at max potentiometer setting (potentiometer at most CW position)
    Current output:
    ~1300mA @ 6.2Vf
    Current output:
    ~1600mA @ 4.9Vf
Please note at max pot setting:
it looked like the driver outputting an overshoot, but it's not an overshoot!
it's because the driver gets hot easily and the current output declined rapidly as i tested the driver without heatsink.
Heatsink is mandatory if you are going to use this driver to drive a high power (current*voltage) output!!
    Warning:
This driver is a current source mode driver.
Do not disconnect the laser diode while operating, diode damage may result.
Do not operate it without a load or with a short circuit output, damage to the driver may result.
Use secure solder joints for laser diode connection.
